Keep Calm - Finish Line Ahead

If we are being truly honest with ourselves, we are responsible for a lot of misfortune and craziness that surround our lives. We make choices and decisions and then have to reap what we sow. Some things, however, are simply out of our control. They just happen.

It could be it is an attack of our enemy. Or maybe it's just an act of randomness. Regardless, sometimes life happens and we just simply have no control on when and where.

The last thing we need to do is give ourselves over to our emotions and panic. When we panic, we drown.

Here is one trick to deal with those moments that might help. I heard my husband telling our oldest son who will be going into the ARMY, that he needs to approach every moment as a series of short term goal lines.

He may be in a moment where a drill sergeant is screaming in his ears, with spit and fury flying out of his mouth. My son will feel the pressure rising to the point that he may blow and tell that Drill Sergeant what to go do with himself. Or maybe he will find himself on a 25 mile road march with a 100 pound ruck sack on his back in the Georgia heat. Each step will become agony as stabbing pain will begin to shoot through his shins.

In those moments, he needs to set short term finish lines. In the case of the Drill Sergeant, he needs to tell himself that this moment will be over in 5 minutes, so what does it really matter? In the case of the road march, maybe he looks up and finds himself a landmark not too far away. A tree or road sign up ahead. Then he tells himself, just make it to that tree. He repeats that process until he completes the march.

Maybe that is what you need to do. Set a short term finish line for your problem. Set a goal you know you can make and then focus on that. Then let God step in and help you make it. He is always there, the Bible says. Jesus says that He is constantly speaking on our behalf to His Father. He walks this road with us. He loves us. And we will make it if we just hang on until that finish line.

“Give in to God, come to terms with him and everything will turn out just fine. Let him tell you what to do; take his words to heart. Come back to God Almighty and he’ll rebuild your life. Clean house of everything evil. Relax your grip on your money and abandon your gold-plated luxury. God Almighty will be your treasure, more wealth than you can imagine.”
‭‭Job‬ ‭22:21-25‬ ‭MSG‬‬

PRAYER:

Daddy God, I love you. You are an awesome and amazing God. I worship your holy name. You are so powerful. I give myself to you. I release my hold on things that I have no control over. I give my mind to you, I give my life to you. We need you in our lives and want to honor your word with our actions. You are my comforter, my guide, and my healer. Thank you for loving me and watching over all I do and say. Amen.
