I have always been one to have high expectations. If I make plans to go on a trip, I start planning and expecting for months in advance. I always get really excited about things to come. Tell me we are moving to a new state, and I start planning and expecting great things to come from the move. If I get a new job, I start planning and expecting good things to happen. I have had this trait since I was a little girl.
Until a few years ago, that is. When my expectations started to fall short of reality.
At first, I would brush it off and just go with the flow, as they say. But then I started noticing that every time I expected something, it just wouldn't happen. I begin to get really frustrated and upset. So I decided that if this was how it was going to go, I would just stop expecting good things. I was tired of my expectations being crushed every time.
Well that is what the enemy wanted. He wanted me to stop expecting so that I would not walk in the light that God has given us. The light of hope. If we are to believe in God, then we must take him at His word in all things. He said that we have a great enemy that wants to devour us. If God wants us to be filled with hope for the future, our enemy must naturally be at work to destroy our hope.
I decided that I was not going to let him have my hope. I decided that I was going to start expecting good things again no matter what happened.
I still can't say all my expectations are being met, but God is there speaking and loving me through life. So even when what I expected does not happen like I thought it would, God is still blessing me and working on my behalf. Life is not always fair, but we can live for God no matter what life throws our way.
“We always pray for you, and we give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all of God’s people,”
“which come from your confident hope of what God has reserved for you in heaven. You have had this expectation ever since you first heard the truth of the Good News.”
Colossians 1:3-5 NLT
PRAYER:
Daddy God, we love you. We want to live in your fulness and joy. Lord, I just ask that when life does not seem fair and tries to crush us, that we remember that you have the plan. If we will just trust and love you, we will be guided to a better expectation, or a different path we did not know was there. We also pray for those that are sick. We ask that you heal and restore their bodies. We ask that you send your peace and comfort to them, and allow your plan for them to be revealed. Give them strength. We adore your holy and precious name. Amen!!!
Be blessed.
