The word trust has been really on my heart. I know there are times when I have had trouble trusting. The bible is full of examples of how we should trust God. Whether it is physical trust like trusting God with your kids, or emotional trust to trust God with your feelings. I am learning more and more about trust. We need to come to the point where we totally rely on God.
My pastor was talking the other day about how, because of Jesus dying on the cross, we have come back to where Adam was before the fall. Adam was able to just talk to God like a friend. He also looked to God for guidance about life. We need to come to that point in our lives that we can just trust and talk to God about everything no matter how big or small.
One way that we can exercise and build our trust, is through worship. Worship is about more than singing. Worship is about telling God that we love him. That of all the things we could go out and strive for, a relationship with him sits above it all. While there are a million good songs out there that we could sing to help us express that feeling and emotion, the real heart of worship comes from deep within us. And it does not have to be expressed in song. We can sit quietly in our bedrooms, or even in our cubicle at work, and just meditate on how we love him. Tell him He is everything to us.
After a bit, you will find that all the worries of this world are not quite as bad as they were a few minutes ago. Just like that, you will find that your trust in Him is growing.
There is an expression that says trust is earned. But God has already earned our trust through his actions. Instead, I prefer to say that trust is learned. The more we practice at it, the easier it will be. Worship can be a form of practice at trusting.
“Believe me, woman, the time is coming when you Samaritans will worship the Father neither here at this mountain nor there in Jerusalem. You worship guessing in the dark; we Jews worship in the clear light of day. God’s way of salvation is made available through the Jews. But the time is coming—it has, in fact, come—when what you’re called will not matter and where you go to worship will not matter. “It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.”
