Listen Up!

Today's blog goes right along with yesterday's blog. We talked about putting the right tools in your tool box. Having the right tools to fix or build something makes all the difference. But would it not be nice to know when and how to use those tools?

There was a interviewer on CNN named Larry King. He had a quote that I found useful. "Nothing I do this day will teach me anything. So if I am going to learn, I must do it by listening."

I think that makes a lot of sense. If you read yesterday's blog, you know I said that one of my son's will be in an advanced carpentry class next year where they will actually get to build a house. Before he ever cuts the first board, or hits the first nail, he must sit in a classroom and have an instructor talk him through a few things first. If he does not exercise good listening skills in the classroom, that is going to be one ugly house when he starts building.

Listening is a skill. You would think it should come naturally, after all we have ears, but it does not. It takes practice. It takes effort. As with all new things we are learning, mistakes will be made. If we practice, and try to learn from our mistakes, we can get good at it.

Reading the Bible is a good thing. There are lot's of great things in it that will help us in our daily lives, but if we do not partner it with trying to listen to the Holy Spirit tell us how and when to apply those things, then a whole lot of mistakes can be made.

“Now listen to me if you are wise. Pay attention to what I say.”
‭‭Job‬ ‭34:16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“If you will listen, I will show you. I will answer you from my own experience.”
‭‭Job‬ ‭15:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Listen closely to what I am about to say. Hear me out.”
‭‭Job‬ ‭13:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

PRAYER:
Daddy God, we vow to be ever mindful of your word. We will also pay close attention to what you are saying. I know you are always speaking. You give us our thoughts and we thank you for guiding and directing our path. So today as we consciously think on you and pursue the direction you would have us go, we go forth with confidence that what we do will be blessed. And you will anoint us to bless others. We love you and adore your holy name. Amen!!!

Be blessed.
