Picture this. You are a parent, and your small child wants a bike. He sees all of the big kids have one, and he wants to be a big kid to. So you get him a bike and start to put it together. He sees the training wheels you are putting on, and he says, "I'm a big kid. I don't need training wheels."
So you pull off the training wheels and he climbs on. You try to help him get going, but he says, "I don't need your help. I'm a big kid." So you let go.
He makes it a few feet, and then - BAM - he is over on his side. You run over to him. He looks up at you with tear filled eyes and says, "Why did you let me fall?"
God wants more than anything to walk with you. He wants to fill you to overflowing. He wants to be there for you through both good and bad times. Everything may be going as it should, and you may feel strong, but do not forget that God is still walking with you.
I know in the times we feel strong, we will feel like we got this and tend to not count on Jesus so much. After all, we think we are big kids. But if you leave Jesus out of the good times, it will seem harder in the rough times to find him.
Now do not get me wrong, He is always there. But if you start trusting in your own abilities, He will take his hands off of you because you have free choice. Then when you are using your own power, you realize it's not so good. You can't just touch him, because he has stepped back because of the choice you made.
My point is, just because you sometimes feel like you are a big kid, you are probably not as big as you thought you were.
“This is the kind of life you’ve been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived. He suffered everything that came his way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step. He never did one thing wrong, Not once said anything amiss. They called him every name in the book and he said nothing back. He suffered in silence, content to let God set things right. He used his servant body to carry our sins to the Cross so we could be rid of sin, free to live the right way. His wounds became your healing. You were lost sheep with no idea who you were or where you were going. Now you’re named and kept for good by the Shepherd of your souls.”
1 Peter 2:24 MSG
PRAYER:
Daddy God, if we are on the mountain top and think we can handle life ourselves, help us to not leave you out. I want to dwell with you in the good times and rough times. For my path is directed by you. I want your will in my life. I want to go where you would have me go and say what you would have me say. Because I know as long as you are by my side, I will come through strong and victorious. We love and praise your holy name. Amen!!
Be blessed.
