Whispers and Hints

I have been asked the following question: "Does God ever actually talk to you?" It's a simple question with a complicated answer. If I just answer, yes, then it will likely paint a picture that the audible voice of God comes booming through my house telling me what to do. While I have no doubt that God can do that if He chooses, that is not how God typically chooses to talk to His people these days.

For me, most of the time, it is more like God is dropping hints. I get an impression of what God wants me to say or do in a situation, and it comes across as a simple thought.

Sometimes that simple thought gets drowned out in the other clutter of my mind. Maybe I am really worried and stressing over a situation, and I cannot seem the hear anything else other than my own worry. That is when I need a gentle push in the right direction from people that I trust. Like my husband or my Pastor.

Maybe I hear what God is telling me, but it is in a shoving match with my own selfish desires.

The best times, is when I am focusing my heart and mind on God. While I am sitting in church, or at a Ladies Group listening to my Pastor's wife talk. Or when I am studying the Bible on my own in the mornings. And I always hear Him speak to me when my Pastor talks. My Pastor is like my own personal group of twelve disciples following me around and giving me advice.

It never comes across as, "Trudy! Thou shalt go forth into the work place and save the lost!" It comes across more as a hint. Like a sign post pointing the direction, on the other side of a busy street. It is hardly ever a shout in my spirit, but more often like a whisper in the wind. I hear it easily when I listen. It get's lost in the breeze when I don't.

Like everything that we learn to do, hearing that whisper in the wind takes practice. Maybe one day my ears will be practiced enough so that the whisper sounds like a shout. But for now, I just try to hear the hints, and listen for the whispers.

“I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ —for this will bring much glory and praise to God.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭1:9-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

PRAYER:
Daddy God, we love you. Today, I thank you for showing me how to live and that you continue to teach and guide me in my life. I want more than anything to learn more and more about you. Help me to follow and live with the confidence you have given me. I long to trust without question, your ways and your will. I want more than anything to be an example of your true love. I want to show the world that you can live in the image of Christ and love anyone you meet, no matter what they may act like or say.  I trust you to help me to dwell in your presence in Jesus name. Amen!!!

Be blessed.
