Are you a seeker? If I asked my kids or my husband that question, the first thing they would think about is the Harry Potter books. A seeker in those books, according to my husband, flew around chasing a little golden ball in a weird ariel version of soccer. If that is where your head went to when I asked that question, I promise that is not what I was referring to.
By the way, I am not a Harry Potter fan. I think they are good movies to take naps to.
Yesterday I talked about the word "Ask" and how it relates to building a closer relationship with God. It is part of a series my Pastor has been teaching called "Approaching God". It is a great series and has really been making me think.
Another word he talked about was "Seek". Scripture says that if we seek God above all else and live righteously, God will give you everything you need. I know what some of you are thinking. Many of us think we will never live righteously enough for God to actually give us everything we need.
STOP! I have thought that way a long time. That I would have to provide for myself instead of God providing because I could never live righteously enough. Not true. God knows we will sin, but Jesus gave us an escape by dying on the cross.
The word sin is often misinterpreted. Most get the idea of this act of horrific evil associated with the word. But the real meaning of the word sin is simply "missing the mark". That does not sound so bad, now does it? After all, everyone misses the mark sometimes.
God died for us so we can live righteously. Just because you miss the mark from time to time, does not mean that you are not righteous. If you have accepted Christ into your heart and you try to live right, even if you mess up sometimes, you are still righteous.
Because many often consider themselves unrighteous, they often don't seek after God very hard. Why seek after something that we really feel deep in our hearts that we are unworthy of? So when we read a scripture like the one below, we approach it with a sadness in our heart, and a feeling of worthlessness.
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
Matthew 6:33 NLT
I have looked at life and said I will never have everything I need, because I will never be righteous enough. God says you are righteous!! Just live for him and do your very best and God will take care of you.
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5 NLT
PRAYER:
Daddy God, we seek you today. We know that you loves us. We just need to be reminded often that even when we mess up, you are just and will forgive us. So Father God, we come to you with open arms and ask that you forgive us of all our sins so that we may live a righteous life in you. For we know you will provide all we need if we will trust and obey what you are calling us to do. We, therefore, do need to worry over our needs. You do that for us. We adore and praise your holy name. Amen!!!
Be blessed.
