Contemplating Love

Many times as I am doing my morning Bible study, and preparing for these daily prayers, I run across the word "love". It's mentioned a lot. Like over 500 times in the NIV version. So there is no wonder that I keep running into it...

I find there is so much to learn about love. Like how to love when someone hurts you. Or how to love an enemy. Even just the simple act of showing love to someone when they are sad can be challenging at times. The more I think on the word love, the more I long to find out what real love is. After all, I know there is much more to love than what I have shown in my life.

I looked up the world's definition of love, but I think it falls short to describing how God truly loves us.

Definition of love:

  • A feeling of strong or constant affection for a person.
  • An attraction that includes sexual desire.
  • The strong affection felt by people that have a romantic relationship.
God's love is there with you even when no one else is.
God's love is there when that person that is supposed to love you, is not loving you.
God's love is there when you are angry, frustrated or even depressed.
God's love is there when you feel unworthy of any love.
God's love is there even if you turn your back on Him.
He is there always and his love is too.

  • Daddy God, I love you. I thank you for teaching me to love each and everyday. As I learn more and more about you and your love, show me new ways to love even when it is hard. I have been through some hard times and I came out victorious. But there were days I truly did not think I would make it. However, you gave me your love and I persevered and came through. I thank you for those days. I ask that you show all those in need that your love is right there with them. I ask that you teach those to love even even the ones that are hurting them. Lord, teach us to see your love in our lives. Open our ears to hear you. Expand our territory and allow your love to shine through us. In the name of the loving Father. Amen!
